Tatkarma yann bandhaya sa vidya ya vimuktaye.
Ayaasyaparam karma vidya shilpnipunam.
– Shri Vishnupurana
That is, that which does not create bondage is karma and that which paves the way to liberation is vidya. The rest of the karma is hard work and other methods are only art and skill.
Indian sages and wise men have described knowledge (vidya) as the means of liberation of man. Man has been seeking freedom from fear, hunger, bad habits, bad conduct, weakness, poverty and inferiority, disease and grief since time immemorial.
The above mahavakyas of Shri Vishnupurana give us the message that man should try to get rid of all his sufferings through knowledge. Vidya is the result of sacrifice and penance, that is why acquiring knowledge is always laborious.
Let us all try our best to acquire knowledge by being disciplined, with a dedicated spirit, using all the available resources with dignity. By incorporating proper diet, exercise and thoughts in your daily routine, let the infinite possibilities given by nature bloom and flourish in the light of the sacred energy of knowledge.
We all recite this sutra from the Taittireeya Upanishad of the Krishna Yajurveda every day in the morning prayer assembly in our schools: –
Om Saha Navavatu Saha Nau Bhunaktu, Saha Veeryam Karavavahai.
Tejasvi Navdhitamatsu Ma Vidvisavai, Om Shanti: Shanti: Shanti:.
Let us understand the great message hidden in this sutra and do our daily work by imbibing it in our lives. I extend my heartiest wishes to all the officers, principals, teachers, students and staff of Delhi Division and wish everyone a successful and happy future.
